R3 P3 Day 8 - 113.9 (-0.4, LDW +1.1)

Wow, this is my last post of 2010! I wish you all safe, joyous New years eves, and a happy, productive 2011!

Interestingly, it appears TOM was a false alarm (unless it was only one day, hey, I'll take that lol). Either way, all the water etc worked. Phew!

We're on our way over to the other half's sister's for tonight, she's on her own, hubby got called away, so we thought we'd hang with her. Not that there were huge plans being considered anyway. They'll be drinking, I probably won't. I

R3 P3 Day 7 - 114.3 (+0.6, LDW +1.6)

Ouchies. Darn that added accidental salt intake! And I'm sure not feeling well didn't help. And TOM arrived today. I'm upping my water intake today, from my usual 10 8oz glasses a day to 12. Between flushing my system, and the normal decrease from day 1 to day 2 of TOM, I'm hoping to see something friendlier on the scale tomorrow.

After all of the problems on round 2's stabilization round (in other words, it never really happened), I'm a tad paranoid at the moment. But today will be simple

R3 P3 Day 6 - 113.7 (+0.4, LDW +0.9)

Still a bit of fluctuation, I'm guessing the cauliflower might be a little bit of an issue? And I still had cheese.

Today I woke up with a horrible tummy bug, cramps and diarrhea, sorry I know, TMI, it made it hard to get the water in today, but I managed it. I also ate 3 meals, and had a late night snack of chicken and cheese. It's so nice to be able to have an evening snack again!

Anyway, it was a quiet day today, I took it quite easy, so this is a boring post. Oh one thing, tomorrow's

R3 P3 Day 5 - 113.3 (-0.2, LDW +0.5)

Well I guess the Faje yogurt yesterday was okay! Today I had 3 oz of cheese, and half an ounce of cream cheese in my cauliflower mashed "potatoes", so we'll see if that's okay tomorrow. It would be nice to slowly reduce to LDW over the coming days, I wouldn't cry if I settled at less than LDW, but my main focus is a nice, calm, stable Phase 3. So far so good.

I made a point of having veggies with dinner, as I was light on veggies the last couple of days, and I was feeling like I needed some,

R3 P3 Day 4 - 113.5 (-0.1, LDW +0.7)

So far so good!! Just sitting here, having my coffee with heavy cream and scrambled eggs and sour cream. Yum! I'll phase in cheese later in the week again, no need to overload my system.

I notice so far that I almost immediately went to about 2000 calories, and that seems to be working in P3. Naturally, come P4 maintenance, I'll have to go down to about 1250-1300 a day for a sedentary level, start there, and see how much I can add and maintain as I get back into working out.

Yesterday was

R3, P3, Days 1, 2 and 3 Catchup

Hope everyone had happy holidays!!

Day 1 of P3, I weighed 112.6, 0.2 below LDW.

P3 started at 8:00am on Dec 24th. We were on the road, so at that time we stopped and got coffee, I bought some heavy cream to put in my coffee - yummy!! I'd prepared beef and eggs (2 oz crumbled 96/4 hamburger in 2 eggs scrambled in butter). It was yummy (eating it in the car, but one does what one must). It was good, but definitely enough. I love that feeling of small amounts of food being enough when you

Round 3 - 48-72 hours - 112.6 (+0.1, -0.2 from LDW)

Nice and steady! I can't believe I'm almost at P3!

I'm noticing a tendency to think A LOT about all the things I can eat on P3, and I'm killing that thought when it comes up. First, because I'll be easing into introducing foods this time, and easing my increase of calories as well. I'm determined to be "stable mable" this time! Second, because historically I have always done better with maintenance (and weight loss for that matter) with a reasonable (read limited) amount of choices. You

Round 3 - 24-48 hours - 112.5 (-0.3 LDW)

Well, the weaning off period is going more or less the same as the last two rounds, with minor fluctuations through the 72 hours. I had to go back and check my spreadsheets to see if it was a typical day two fluctuation, I thought they were larger than that, but it's typical.

I was hungry last night at bedtime, tummy growling etc, but no big deal. This morning the coffee is doing its breakfast job no problem. I do notice, that I have that "empty" feeling in my tummy that we typically

End of Round 3 - LDW = 112.8

And I took my last dose this morning at 7:59am. P3 will start at 8:00am on Friday.

My weight was the same as it was yesterday, 112.8, which makes this round's LDW (last dose weight) 1.6 pounds higher than Round 2's. I'm a teeny bit disappointed that I didn't hit 111.anything again, but, it's a pound, my measurements are the same as they were at the end of round 2, and that's all that is truly important. I lost 3 inches off my waist alone this round, which gives you an idea of how bloated I

Sooooo close to round 2's LDW. Whatever the result is tomorrow, I am so happy with how this round turned out. Tomorrow morning is my last dose, and I am looking forward to getting through the 72 hour weaning off period as the HCG leaves my system, and moving on to the stabilization phase of the HCG protocol.

I've been doing a lot of reading on phasing in foods, and reading on savory breakfasts rather than sweet ones, so I'm thinking my first breakfast will be a hamburger patty with an egg on

Oops don't know how I missed updating!

Day 19 - 114.3 (-0.2)

Spent the day Christmas shopping, and then went to see the new Narnia movie in the evening. All in all a fun day. I tried on pants and am once again a size zero! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calorie wise, I came in at 427, I did a day without salt, as in no hot sauce and sea salt on my meats, and boy did I ever miss them. I don't know how much of a difference it makes at this point in the round anyway. We'll see tomorrow.

Wow, the same. That hasn't happened much at all on this round! My body is taking a rest day.

Today was spent Christmas shopping with the other half's mom, doing housework, and just generally preparing for Christmas.

I ate 413 calories today, it was lower as I didn't eat an apple, had half a grapefruit with lunch instead. I'm still battling my cold, but I'm confident determined that I'll be well by Christmas.

Well, the cold medicine free day yesterday paid off, I would say! Feeling better over all, so with any luck at all I'll be back to my usual self by Christmas!

Today, I reached a "high" calorically of 456 calories. I enjoyed cabbage for dinner once again, as well as half a pink grapefruit and chicken. Lunch was beef, tomato and an apple. I'm still feeling like avoiding the carb during this round's VLCD phase is a good idea. I'm not thinking about carbs as much, just like Round 1, so I'm

Arrgh. I attribute this to water retention due to the cold meds.

Luckily, I feel somewhat better today, other than sounding like a bullfrog. So, today I'm doing without cold meds.

I had to go out earlier to get dog food, and some beef and chicken to cook up for myself. While I was out, I bought a cabbage, and very much enjoyed my steamed cabbage with chicken! Cabbage has to be one of my favorite veggies, and I really wanted something hot.

I'm struggling to get my water in (I aim for ten 8oz glasses a day). I'll drink it (4 to go as of right now), but I really don't enjoy my water when sick with a cold.

Today, I slept the day away. The other half went to the drugstore to get me meds, against my protests. I asked him to at least find me sugar free stuff. And so he did. Bless him.

It's a grey, rainy day here, the other half is sleeping (and sleeping and sleeping), and will hopefully recover from his cold Q-U-I-C-K-L-Y, as he is no.fun.at.all to be around when he is sick.

I ate 420 calories yesterday, and had lots of water. TOM is still here, but today or tomorrow will likely be my last day. Always glad when that's done. Counting today, only 10 more days on P2, which means 13 more days of VLCD eating. There is definitely something to be said for doing rounds

The other half is sick (poor baby), so it was a day of sitting on the couch watching movies. And running out for a few groceries and cold medicine supplies. Exciting lol.

Yay! One thing that I love about the HCG diet is that I can usually depend on a slight gain on day 1 of TOM, followed by a large release on day 2. Happily, this time was no exception!

Just took my dose this morning, and I've emptied out my bottle and will make up a new dose for tonight. I could have used that batch to the bitter end, but since it's a short round, I want my HCG as potent as possible. That will be my last box, so I need to order more. The other half is sick with a cold (poor baby), so he's sleeping a lot, which means I've had a nap or two as well lol. Since I missed my dose of HCG last night, I took a slightly higher one this morning, 0.7cc instead of the usual 0.5cc. Either way it shouldn't matter since the HCG takes 72 hours to leave your system (hence that 72 hour period of VLCD eating at the end of phase 2 that we have to do). Figured it couldn't hurt though to go slightly higher this morning.

So, at the end of week 1, I have lost 3.9 pounds (8.0 including the crazy loss during loading), and my average daily loss right now is 0.7

I came in at 438 calories today, drank 10 glasses of water (seems to be my average at this early point in the round), and had a cup of herbal tea in the evening, hot drinks are a lifesaver on the HCG protocol - they fill you up and counteract the boredom factor nicely.

We had a wonderful time, I did my best with my eating, and I RAN EVERY DAY! Sorry for the yelling, but I'm really excited that I did that! It didn't help that the other half made a comment about something I was eating "is that good for weight loss, I notice you've been eating a lot of it". Today went well, again, not terribly hungry, just ate my three meals and two snacks. The pine nuts and 5-HTP and choosing filling foods process is still working its magic. Now, dinner was stuffed pork chops bought from our local Amish market, so I'm hoping there is nothing I'll react to in it. Also, I caved and bought a small piece of dark chocolate fudge. Sometimes the best thing I can do for myself is to eat the foods I ate while on HCG. Simple, healthy nutrition, just more of it.

It was a full day, a sad day, I found out a dear friend passed away in December, in a snowmobiling accident. My heart and mind are full of memories of long chats and phone

LM Day 24 120.3

Well, I guess this tummy bug is good for something LOL.

I stuck to basically an egg day, other than a little cheese and a couple of small granola bars, mostly to calm my tummy, I had a loooong nap this afternoon, and am starting to feel a little more normal again. It was certainly a not fun 24 hours.

I'd love to break back into the teens tomorrow, but we'll see. Not sure that the granola bars won't interfere with that. Ah well, if not tomorrow, then the day after.

And now, a cup of tea

LM Day 23 120.7

A slight decrease, as I continue my focus on high protein, good fats, zero sugar. I did get into the Larabars (love them, they are amazingly good, natural substitutes for a meal, and a yummy snack with a cuppa tea in the afternoon, and a lot of fiber). I also tried an Atkins bar I hadn't tried before, the Coconut Almond Delight bar. I know as an O+ I'm not supposed to have coconut, but honestly, that bar is filling, satisfying and stops the sugar/carb cravings cold! So I guess maybe that's an

LM Days 20, 21 and 22

Weights: Day 20 - 122.2, Day 21 - 120.7

The high weight on Day 20 was due to our church outing (obviously still can't handle bread and highly processed meats - hot dog), and I'd been nibbly all day, ending the day with a late night fruit and yogurt snack. Day 20, I did a steak day, which worked beautifully, although it was a hard steak day, I was hungry and weak for most of the day, but of course that could be the effects of TOM as well.

Today I was 120.8. So in 21 days of maintenance, I

LM Day 19 (121.1)

Well, the arrival of TOM explained the bad attack of the nibblies that I've had for the last couple of days.

Today we had a church event, I had a cookie, and a hot dog, and a diet soda. The rest of the day has been pretty standard P3 style eating, high protein, a bit of veggie and fruit, nice and simple.

I may do a egg day as a corrective day tomorrow, since I have been trying to do two days a week (and having already done a steak day earlier in the week).

I'm finding that having tea

LM Days 15 and 16

(otherwise titled "A Lesson in Consistency")

Weights: Day 15 - 119.6, Day 16 - 120.8

That little gain was all on me. The other half made his famous pineapple upside down cake a couple of days ago, I resisted on my steak day, resisted the next day, and yesterday finally had a bite, which then led to a full serving of it. It's delicious, I thoroughly enjoyed it, now back to work lol.

Two blogs that I read regularly had posts on consistency in the last couple of days. I'd like to

LM Days 11-14

My weights were as follows:

Day 11 - 120.7, Day 12 - 121.1, Day 13 - 122.4 and today, Day 14 - 120.3.

It was a carb heavy weekend, I definitely indulged a bit on carby, salty foods, and yesterday corrected it with a Steak Day.

Today I am eating a low carb day, the only carby thing I had was an Archer Farms fruit bar (not thrilled with it, wasn't worth the sugars or the calories), everything else was with an emphasis on clean eating, low carb. I'd like to maintain the results from the

LM Day 10 (119.9)

Still in the teens. Yay!

I've been reading an amazing book, Women Food and God by Geneen Roth. Well worth a read to help deal with the emotional side of this weight loss journey, no matter which plan you're on.

Today was very uplifting, I had a terrific conversation with a client/friend that I'm coaching as she does the HCG Diet, she's having great success, and I'm so proud of her, and happy for her as she moves along in P2, losing her weight. It is so fulfilling to help others do what

LM Days 8 and 9

LM Day 8 (120.6)

Apparently the pizza weight is taking its time leaving my system. I've always thought it so unfair that I can gain almost 3 pounds in a day and then it takes days and days for those pounds to leave. Ah well, who said life was fair lol. I had a nice, moderate day with lean meats, fruits and veggies, and since I am still struggling with that 4pm "must have sugar" issue, at 4 I had some pau d arco tea, and candida G. While I still did have a couple of sugary items, those steps

LM Days 4, 5, 6 and 7

I wasn't feeling so hot over the last few days (fighting a bug), so blogging just didn't happen. Here is a summary of the last few days.

LM Day 4 (119.5)

I was a little carb heavy, and had a late evening snack, hence the increase.

LM Day 5 (118.9)

The next day, all three meals were scrambled eggs. It's all I felt like throughout the day, and settled my tummy nicely. With the added benefit of dropping the carb weight.

LM Day 6 (121.6)

On day 5, breakfast was a banana, we had

LM Day 3 (118.9)

Today was a lower sugar, lower carb day, more of a P3 kind of day, really.

Breakfast was eggs with cheese, lunch was a hamburger patty, turkey sausage, tomato and banana. Dinner was Greek yogurt with strawberries. As a snack I had a health bar that I'd gotten as a sample - all natural, vegan, organic. It was good! I successfully avoided getting into the candy, even though the other half and his son (who was visiting) were indulging. I just wanted to keep sugar to a minimum, if it was not

LM Day 2 (118.4)

So yesterday went just fine. A 0.6 increase is not a disaster, especially since I had a couple of items that should ideally have waited a few weeks.

Today I'm being a tad more careful. Breakfast was oatmeal, actually half the recommended serving (1/4 cup dry) of old fashioned oatmeal, cooked up, then I added a half packet of stevia, and 4 oz of strawberries. It was delicious, I've missed my oats! I only did half a serving, because I remembered from round 1, having done a full serving with a

Lifetime Maintenance - Day 1 (117.8)

(otherwise known as R2 - P4 Day 1).

I woke up relaxed, the decision to move on to maintenance having been made. Today I have eaten lower fat, still low carb as I transition carbs back into my lifestyle. I DID however have a 4 wine gums, even though sugar should wait a while yet. They were yummy. And enough, just the two of them. And that's a cool thing!

Breakfast was hurried as I was out to a dogwalking client - coffee with cream and 2 oz havarti cheese (my fave). Lunch was a 6 oz patty

R2 - P3 Day 35 (+0.1, 117.6)

Well, as a weight loss tool, yesterday wasn't terribly effective. However, I did learn that a protein shake could keep me full for hours. So that will come in handy when I'm on the run.

We had dinner out with friends, and between conversations with my friend, the other half, and a phone call with my cousin this evening, as well as a feeling that I'm ready and it's time to just be proud of what I've accomplished and just plain enjoy where I'm at, I've decided that today is my last day on

R2 - P3 Day 34 (+1.1, 117.5)

Well, I certainly DID eat above my baseline BMR lol. That didn't go quite as I'd planned, a neighbor had a party, and dinner ended up being the best (few) choices I could make out of a gorgeous array of foods (this was one time when still being on P3 was tough).

So, I had a little smoked pork, some raw veggies, cheese and water. Sigh. You should have seen the spread, not to mention the dessert table. Then I went home and consumed way too much more cheese. Late at night. Hence the dramatic

R2 - P3 Day 33 (-0.5, 116.4)

Well that was a nice release! I guess being so close to LDW, I'm not likely to see more than a half a pound loss on a correction day. Today I ate to slightly above BMR. A lot of cheese today, which always worries me a bit, but we'd gone to a party across the street and it was a case of making the best choices that I could. Ah well... life, right?

On to another correction day tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a large apple for breakfast, and a smoothie for lunch and dinner. It'll be a change of

R2 - P2 Day 32 (+0.2, 116.9)

Ah well, at least it was still under 117. That's so minor a fluctuation.

Today was an egg day. I had 3 hard boiled eggs at each meal. That and a lot of water and black coffee.

And ibuprofen. TOM arrived last night. Oh joy.

It will be interesting to see the scale results tomorrow.

In the meantime, this morning when I weighed myself, it initially showed me in the 117 range (until a BM, sorry for the TMI). I was freaking. Then I shook my head (not literally, that would be silly lol),

R2 - P3 Day 31 (-0.5, 116.7)

Half a pound! I'll take it! It's day 2 of my alternating day strategy. Turns out steak/hamburger - NOT the same difference. I was STARVING at bedtime last night. Next time I have to do a steak day, it'll be steak!

Today has been all about eating a P3 type day to my baseline basal metabolic rate (BMR). The BMR is the minimum number of calories you need to consume in a day to provide fuel for your bodily functions. There are a lot of calculators online, so I looked up my BMR which is 1220,

R2 - P3 Day 30 (+0.8, 117.2)

Ugh. Too much dairy late at night. Today was a steak day.Or rather, a hamburger day (same deal, just ground steak, right?)

I read about a strategy where you do various correction days alternating with with P3 days. I figure I will try one week of this strategy. We'll see what gives from there. If my body has indeed decided that this is where it wants to be, I'll get on with P4, but I wanted to give it one last go before I move on to

Well, that was a less than dramatic result lol. I think it's very telling however. I think it means that I'm stabilizing at 116. Which makes me wonder, if I'd used the Drops of Skinny from day 1 of round 2's phase 3, would I have stabilized at 111? Guess I'll never know. Now I have to decide whether to keep fighting this, or to simply decide to be happy at this weight and move on to maintenance. After all, once I get into P4, I will be able to start exercising (which frankly, mentally I'm dying

Cosmetics, Creams and Hair Products (oh my!) while on HCG

I've been receiving a lot of questions from my clients at emergewithhcg of late, about what cosmetics, skin and hair products are safe to use.

The best guideline I can give actually flies in the face of what I would normally recommend is to buy products with chemicals, and no natural oils or fats. When not on HCG, I like the more natural products, feeling that we are inundated with chemicals in our daily lives.

However - HCG is a total different ballgame. While on HCG, the body reacts

R2 - P3 Day 27 (0.0, 116.8)

I can live with sameness lol.

Today, I just said eff it, I'm going to RELAX. I am going to eat what I want, trust my body, and did I say relax? No stressing over getting to the LDW that I reached during Phase 2 of the HCG Diet. No stressing over gaining or losing tomorrow. Just r-e-l-a-x.

I'd read that the key to Phase 3 of the HCG protocol (and weight loss and maintenance for that matter) is to relax and not stress.

I felt like cream in my coffee. I had it. I felt like having coffee

HCG weight loss, round 2, phase 3 day 27

R2 - P3 Day 28 (-0.2, 116.6)

See what all that relaxing did for me?

Today, I'm doing an egg correction day, one of the alternatives to the famous Steak Day, found in Pounds and Inches (the manual written by Dr. Simeons), and typically used by followers of the HCG Diet to correct any weight gain of over 2 pounds above last dose weight (LDW) during Phase 3 and Phase 4 of the HCG protocol.

I've been eating eggs scrambled in olive oil at each meal, black coffee (or rather black coffee with stevia), and I may also have

R2 - P3 Day 26 (+2.1, 116.8)

Argh! I consumed way too much cheese and salt last night at the future SILs birthday party. The six year old in me is stomping her foot and whining "but I didn't have any wine or cake or delicious French apple pie or anything! It's not fair!!" LOL thank goodness she doesn't rule my life!
However, a good time was had by all, and I'm sure the scale will be friendlier tomorrow. I'll do a regular, low to no dairy day today, tons of water, and I'm sure I'll be happier with what I see tomorrow. And tomorrow will be a correction day. It's all good...

(If you'd like to read my HCG journey from day 1, go to www.emergeweightloss.com)

R2 - P3 Day 25 (-1.0, 114.7)

Now that was a successful correction day!
We had a lovely time with some friends last night, it was so good to see them! It was a very late night, I went to bed at 2am (the other half followed later, not sure when), mostly because I was very hungry, determined NOT to eat (and possibly wreck any progress I'd made), and the other half was having a snack and I just couldn't sit there and watch him eat. Most times, I'm fine with that, but not last night!
Today is a regular P3 day. I've had a couple of slices of cheese, eggs for breakfast. I'm having salad and a chicken patty for lunch. Dinner will be at the birthday girl's house (BBQ), and I will cope with that well, I'm sure. Hoping tomorrow is the same (I'm liking the 114 range, it's been a while!)
Anyway, need to get on with my day, but just wanted to check in. Happy Friday! :)

R2 - P3 Day 24 (+0.2, 115.7)

Yep, definitely feeling like I'm hitting my stride here. Yesterday I had cream in my coffee, a couple of slices of cheese (in my meals), and some sour cream in addition to my meals (breakfast was 4 eggs scrambled in olive oil with a slice of cheese, lunch was a hamburger patty fried in olive oil with a tomato on the side, and dinner was another 4 eggs scrambled in olive oil with a hamburger patty crumbled in it and a slice of pepper jack cheese).
And all I saw was 0.2 - which means I maintained! Yay! I won't push it though, I'm still keeping dairy to a minimum as a rule, and my veggies simple. Once I'm down into my safe range again, I'll add fruit again (just apples and grapefruit, the things I ate on P2) and see how it goes.
Today is a correction day. I (again lol) don't particularly feel like doing one, but since there's a birthday party on Friday and a wedding on Saturday and Sunday is my next opportunity to do one, today has to be it. I'll just suck it up, drink my black coffee and move on!
I fried up a bunch of ground turkey last night (made patties) in olive oil, and they will be my meals for the day. I had breakfast already, and allowed myself a TB of sugar free mayo with it, but I'm going to try not to do that more than maybe one more time at dinner. I want to keep the fats as simple as possible, so I might do a drizzle of olive oil on the lunch patty. We'll see.
Tomorrow (I believe) is a BBQ party, so I should be able to navigate that one well, as part of a regular P3 day. The only one that has me a tad worried is the wedding on Saturday - zero influence over the food at that one! I'll just have to pick the best protein choices I can, and avoid sugar as much as possible. I'll do my best, and NOT STRESS! (that's in caps as a not-so-gentle reminder to myself that stressing doesn't help. It just takes the joy out of the moment, and I've done that to myself far too often over the years).
Anyway, onwards, have a great day!

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

R2 - P3 Day 23 (-0.2, 115.5)

Well, I'm feeling more and more confident that I am on the right track! I was a little afraid of what I'd see this morning, so a little release is happy-making!
I was going to do a correction day today, but frankly I just didn't feel like it, so I'll do a day like yesterday, and do a correction day tomorrow. I'm looking forward to hitting my safe zone again, but for today I just want to enjoy my cream in my coffee, take it easy, continue to test that this is the right track.
A good family friend (and client) is blogging about her HCG experience, to see her blog, go here.
Anyway, better get on with it, we have an early morning vet appointment for the boys (our dogs), otherwise I'd still be snoozing lol. I'll update later. Have a great Wednesday folks!

R2 - P3 Day 22 (-1.8, 115.7)

Muuuuuuuuch better! I feel I can breathe easier again :)
Well, that definitely worked well as a correction day. Today, as per the advice I read, I am adding my cream to my coffee again, but this will be the only dairy I allow today, and if I want any coffee later in the day, it will be without cream (which will likely prevent me from wanting any lol). Breakfast will be scrambled eggs with olive oil (like all three meals yesterday - man I love that meal! So simple, yet I feel my body being FED by it). Lunch will be chicken with salad (and some olive oil and vinegar as dressing). I haven't decided what dinner will be, but it will likely be similar to lunch. I think I'll boil some eggs in case I feel a need for a snack at some point in the day. I find hard boiled eggs very filling.
Still continuing on with the Drops of Skinny, feeling good with them.
I SLEPT last night. And that's usually a sign that my body is releasing. Other than a potty trip at around 4am, I slept hard, and didn't wake until 9am, which is late for me, and made it over 9 hours of sleep!
All in all, I feel back on track. A little nervous that I'll gain tomorrow, but if I'm sensible it should not be an issue. Back on track feels good!
